I performed My Friend at the B.B. Bistro Cafe on Friday nite. They were having technical difficulties with the lighting, so we were in the dark but the audio is pretty good. Check it (ok, me
) out and let me know what you think.
Many thanks to photographer / videographer Harry Blum and poet Mahri Best for the video, the pages on the Poet People Place and for posting the video on YouTube!

Usually I can’t cry in the morning. there’s something about my tear ducts that just don’t work in the A.M. – But you have gone and taken care of that!
Absolutely captivating. I was enthralled. Mesmerized.
What kind of response did you receive from that particular poem?
I think your reaction is a very common one. Regardless of the venue, I can always hear a pin drop after yelling “If you’re truly my friend, then prove it right now!” The Bistro staff stopped banging around in the kitchen and came the the counter to watch / listen. I don’t think Harry, the videographer, blinked while I was slammin’ it. He was mesmerized too.
Amazing!
This starts my Easter week in a beautiful way and truly puts it in perspective.
Thank you Ric!
Hey B, Thanks you! Think of it as an Easter present.
Thanks for adding your voice, heart (and face =) to your words.
There’s nothing more fulfilling than giving everything you’ve been given for His glory, is there?
It certainly was clearly ‘for His glory’ because He most definitely shone through!
I loved the tender way you depicted God as saying (after man’s fall), “I must leave”– not in anger or condemnation but grief because He had no other choice (as a result of theirs).
Thanks for the ‘gift’ , and I hope you got mine also (via email). If not, let me know and I’ll try again.

Hey D, Thanks. I have received your gift. Thank you for that as well!
clap clap clap clap!!!! very good! I loved it!!Ric did you write that? wow! it fit so well with a conversation i had with my children this morning after watching the Passion of the Christ last night…Brother you have a gift!
Beautiful. Have you ever considered writing song lyrics or letting someone put music to your poetry?
What an amazing gift!!!
Darla – Thank you. Yep, wrote in 2004. It is found here: http://ricbooth.wordpress.com/2007/10/20/my-friend/
praise365 – Thank you. I have wondered about lyrics and/or music. I just need to hang with more musicians I think.
Correction on my previous comment re: “I must leave”. In reading the actual words, I see you changed them a bit in your recitation, but it was man, not God (as I misquoted above) saying them. I do like the change though since it communicates the tenderness I referred to before.
Still, isn’t it too true that God is the One who ’stays put’ (like the Father in Lk. 15) and we are the ones making the choices that necessitate the separation?
Yet, how great is His mercy and love to not give up on us and do everything possible to grant those second, third, fourth….ad infinitum….chances to take the way (of the cross) back home.
Thanks again for your insights and willingness to share them with all.

Thanks again D. I like the change too. It has morphed from the original draft in several key word choices.
How cool is this?!?! What great outreach and publicity. Very nicely done.
I linked back to my posting of this poem – I think this was a longer version than the one I copied. Do you have the latest version available?
Michelle, Thank you. I think it is nearly the same. I’ll listen and see what other differences I may have interjected.
heh – ric doesn’t remember the words == well thought out changes.
I like it.
Hey! Some changes were completely intentional. Other changes… well they may have been intentional too for all I know. You can ask when you you get to heaven.
‘Changes’ can often be the Holy Spirit’s ‘new inspiration’ for the moment, place, and people present I think (as long as it still makes sense in context of course =).
It’s good—keeps us more dependent on Him I believe, rather than so perfectly ’scripted’ that we think WE have it all under control.
