I Elect to Abstain

I do not vote. There. Man, it feels good coming out of the closet.
Many take exception with this practice. Not voting is usually deemed lazy, unamerican, and a poor Christian example. And, yes, while I may be guilty on all counts, especially on garbage night, my reasons extend a bit deeper.
I enjoy being thorough. For [...]

The Recursive Curse (P.O.T.D.)

I commented on one of badguy’s posts and it got me thinking philosophically. Then I thought, hey that’s a pretty cool poem. Well, it is if one does not mind looking foolish.
So here is a Haiku that describes the mother’s curse in 17 syllables.

My kids are clueless.
Like, they just do not get [...]

My Difficult Journey…

…Across the Attic
So I am adding insulation to my attic.
Doing my part. Saving Energy. (Ok, saving money)
We have a lot of stuff stored up there and I need to move it around.
Note: When moving stuff in an attic, it is important to know where your feet are landing. Or not landing.
That hole is about twice [...]

Its hard to give. Its hard to get.

This is one of my favorite songs (for several years now).
Forgiveness
by Patty Griffin
We are swimming with the snakes
At the bottom of the well
So silent and peaceful in the darkness where we fell
But we are not snakes and whats more
We never will be
And if we stay swimming here forever we will
Never be free
I heard them [...]

I Long to Swing Once More

I long to swing once more
a child stares out the door
the chains creek in the wind
I play as one no more
the chains creek in the wind
a cold will settles in
to lock away the pain
with screams of distant sin
to lock away the pain
I search someone to blame
it takes what one should give
to live in private shame
it [...]

cast•a•way

I wrote cast•a•way in December 2006 and, after some tweaks, posted it on March 10th, 2007.
I am reposting it because I now realize I wrote this 22 months ago to have it ready for this day.

Castaway attempts to answer the question, “What does the cycle of evil look like?” A follow-up question might be, [...]

Cider

We are gathered
in the fall.
This season of our life
The apples of his eye
It does not matter how,
as skin is not the concern
Only the inside matters
The good he has locked within us.
Knocked from the safety of our branch
Falling to the ground
Bruised and alone
Gathered
Tossed
in old burlap bags
Pressing down under our own weight
Taken
from the orchard
to the mill.
Breaking us [...]

Cry Out to Jesus

My younger brother sent this to me last night. It is one of my favorites.

Walking with The Light

“Stop! You do not want to come in here.”
The Creature is right of course. Its tone carried warning and dread on every word.
“I think I must though.” The timidity of my reply angered me. Why am I so affraid?
“You think? You? Thinking? That’s rich! I do the thinking around here! You are nothing but a [...]

Sit awhile with me

This year I started practicing the song, You Raise Me Up with my voice coach. I fell in love with the song a few years ago when I heard the cover by Selah. I have improved to the point where I can sing this song in my sleep. After this week, I now know why [...]
