I Repent

Steve Green sings a song titled I Repent on his album The Faithful (©1998). It is one of my favorites. I could not find Steve singing it on You Tube anywhere, but I did find this homemade cover by musician Pixelguru. I have the CD and mp3 but you should really get your own. Seriously.

I regret the hours I have wasted
and the pleasures I have tasted
that you were never in.
And I confess that though your love is in me,
it doesn’t always win me
when competing with my sin.

And I repent, making no excuses.
I repent, no one else to blame.
And I return to fall in love with Jesus.
I bow down on my knees and I repent.

I lament the idols I’ve accepted,
the commandments I’ve rejected
to pursue my selfish end.
And I confess I need you to revive me,
put selfishness behind me
and take up my cross again.

And I repent, making no excuses.
I repent, no one else to blame.
And I return to fall in love with Jesus.
I bow down on my knees…
And I return to fall in love with Jesus.
I bow down on my knees and I repent.

  1. Ric,
I just read the lyrics to this song and then watched the video from your previous post (the skit).

It all fits together so well. There’s nothing the enemy wants to hinder more than our repentance. If he can keep us focused on ourselves and our failures more than the forgiveness and healing Christ brings when we acknowlege it to Him, it will ultimately lead us to despair and death instead.

But God fights for us if we will only humble ourselves to call out to Him, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways (2 Chron. 7:14).

    Thanks for sharing these,
    D-

  2. I don’t think I have ever heard this before but I love it…I repent..seem to need to do it several times a day..but it is exactly where we all need to be…repentance has to happen before entering the blessings of GOD.

Love ya man! hope you have a good day!

  3. I wake up each morning feeling I need to apologize to God for something, but it’s vague, and I never seem to know exactly what it is. It’s probably false guilt, which never tells me what I did wrong. But this song does bring to light how my heart seems to stray from the Lord.

  4. I really hate this reality:
And I confess that though your love is in me,
    it doesn’t always win me
    when competing with my sin.

I’m so thankful for the assurance of the Advocate. His help is available, sometimes I just take my time in requesting help. :(

    So…yeah…I repent.

Take this wandering heart and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above.

New to me, as well. Thanks, Ric. ;)

  5. Powerful words. Thanks for the much-needed post friend. :-)
